Add PDF documents or folders to create new references

To add PDF documents or folders to create new references:

You can upload a PDF document or a folder of PDF documents into EndNote even if there is no matching reference in your Library. EndNote extracts the bibliographic information from the PDF document to create a new reference in your library. 

Note: A scanned PDF document or a PDF document without a DOI number cannot be added successfully tEndNote using the instructions below.  

  1. Select File > Import. Click on File or click on Folder if you have more than one reference.
  2. Click on the Choose button and locate the PDF file or folder you want to add to your Library
  3. Click Open
  4. Select the PDF import option
  5. Click Import
  6. it save automatically in Unfiled Folder and Imported Reference File.
  7. Manually edit the reference such as author name, date, publisher, et.al.

 

Add a Manual Reference (a book or website) to Your Library

To Add a Manual Reference (a book or website) to Your Library:

  1. Select References, New Reference.
  2. Select Reference Type

(Tip: Choose Book Section for a book chapter)

  1. Enter the applicable fields (i.e. Author, Title, Date, etc.) 
  2. Once you've filled in the fields, click on the small X in the upper right-hand corner of EndNote to close the record. The record will automatically save. 

Tips:

  • *If you are entering an author's name the correct way is last name, first name Ex: Doe, Jane
  • *If you are entering a webpage, be sure to include the URL and Access Date.
  • *If your author is an organization (i.e. American Cancer Society) enter the organization’s name into the Author field and be sure to put a comma after the name of the organization (.i.e. American Cancer Society,)

Download References from Google Scholar to EndNote

Download References from Google Scholar:

  1. Open the Endnote Library you would like to export references to.
  2. Go to www.scholar.google.com
  3. Go to Settings. (Settings are located in the top right-hand corner)   
  4. Select Show links to import citations into Endnote and choose Save.
  5. Search Google Scholar, and download your citation by selecting the Import into EndNote button.
  6. Once you've downloaded the reference, check the reference in EndNote to ensure that the information is complete.

Import Citation from EBSCO to EndNote

EBSCO Database such as Academic Search Premier

1. Click on the title of your reference to open the full record
2. Click on Export(along the right side of screen)
3. Choose Direct Export to EndNote Web and click on Save
4. The WebNote Web Log-in Screen will pop-up (watch your pop-up blocker)
5. Log-In or Sign Up for an account
6. Your references are automatically placed in [Unfiled] Group (found in My Reference Tab)
7. To place your unfiled reference in correct group, click on title and then Add to Group

Import Citations from WorldCat to EndNote

  • Perform a search in the WorldCat database.
  • Mark the items you'd like to export by putting checks in the boxes to the left. After you've finished marking, click on the Marked Records link near the top of the page (see graphic below).
  • Once you've finished marking items, click on the Marked Records link below the tabs near the top of the page.
  • Select the items you'd like to export, and then click on the Export icon. Make sure EndNote is selected Click on the Export button.
  • After clicking Export, a file download dialog box will open. Click Save and navigate to where you'd like the file to be located. Click Save again.
  • Open the exported file. EndNote should open and the Select a Reference Library dialog box will appear. Find the EndNote library where you'd like to export your items, and click Open.
  • The Choose an Import Filter dialog box will open. Select WorldCat (OCLC) from the list. Click the Choose button. The reference(s) should show up in your EndNote library.
