More information about Scheduling a Class with Me

Dear APU CNHS Faculty,

As the Librarian dedicated to the School of Nursing, Public Health, and Child Life, I am pleased to offer information literacy and research instruction sessions for your students. My aim is to equip them with essential skills for academic success.

Please find below important details regarding scheduling and session preparation:

For Asynchronous Courses: Kindly coordinate with your students to identify a mutually convenient time for a library instruction session.

For Scheduled Online & In-Person Classes: I am available to conduct sessions via Zoom or Google Meet, according to your preference. My availability can be viewed and scheduled through the following link: https://apu.libguides.com/DeniseGehring/appointment

For optimal engagement during in-person Google Meet & Zoom sessions, I recommend that each student utilize their own computer.

Session Duration and Preparation:

  • Introductory-Level Classes (60 minutes): I will provide a demonstration topic for students to practice research skills.

  • Upper-Level Classes (90-120 minutes): To ensure relevance, please ask students to come prepared with a potential research topic related to a current project or paper.

  • Shorter Sessions (60 minutes) for Upper-Level Classes: If a shorter session is preferred, please assign the following pre-session recordings for students to watch: Introduction, Part 1, and Part 2.

To tailor the session effectively, please include your course syllabus with your scheduling request.

Specific Guidance for GNRS597, GPHS597, etc.: Students in these courses are required to attend a group/class session. If individual attendance is not feasible, students must watch the designated recording (located on the upper right-hand side of the GNRS library guide page) prior to any individual consultation with me.

Canvas Integration for Library Resources:

Before our scheduled session, I will share a Canvas page containing valuable library information directly with you. To access and integrate this page into your course:

  1. Click on "Account."

  2. Select "Shared Content."

  3. Click the three dots below "Actions."

  4. Choose "Import."

Integrating this page into your Canvas course provides students with direct access to library resources, a chat function, and my appointment scheduling link. As this page is updated each semester, I encourage you to import the latest version. Alternatively, you can grant me "Teacher" or "TA" access to your Canvas course, and I can add the page for you.

Research Guide:

I have developed a comprehensive Research Guide specifically for Nursing and Public Health students: https://apu.libguides.com/healthsciencesvirtuallibrary. This guide is also embedded within the Canvas page mentioned above. If you require a customized research guide for your specific course, please email me your syllabus separately and describe what you would like me to include. You can see examples by going to the link above, then hover over “materials for specific courses…” Next, select one of the courses.

Library Acquisitions:

I welcome your recommendations for book and ebook purchases throughout the academic year. We are currently expanding our collection of textbooks, particularly in ebook format. To avoid duplication, I encourage you to consult the library catalog for existing ebook access (feel free to email me for assistance). You can then directly link to these resources in your syllabus. I also conduct an annual syllabus review to proactively order relevant materials.

Scheduling:

To schedule a library research presentation for your class, please use the following link (intended for faculty use only; please do not share this link with students): https://apu.libguides.com/DeniseGehring/appointment

Please feel free to share this information with other CNHS faculty members who may benefit from these services. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you, and I wish you a successful semester.

Sincerely,

Denise Gehring
